School and University Cleaning in San Diego County
Custodial programs for San Diego County universities, colleges and schools, including lab buildings, event days and coastal campuses.
The short answer
EBS Maintenance provides school and university cleaning in San Diego County for university and research buildings, community colleges, private schools and K-12 campuses, from Oceanside and San Marcos to La Jolla, Mission Valley and Chula Vista. Programs cover classrooms, lecture halls, labs, libraries, restrooms and athletic spaces, with cleanroom protocols available where a building needs them. Crews travel down I-15 from EBS's Corona office, and supervisors inspect each campus on a set cycle.
Campuses from North County to the South Bay
San Diego County's campuses range from a major research cluster in La Jolla to neighborhood community colleges and K-12 schools. The main ones by area:
- La Jolla and University City: UC San Diego and its Scripps Institution of Oceanography, with the Salk Institute, Scripps Research and Sanford Burnham Prebys nearby on Torrey Pines Mesa
- Mission Valley: SDSU Mission Valley, home of Snapdragon Stadium
- North County: Cal State San Marcos and Palomar College in San Marcos, and MiraCosta College in Oceanside
- Central San Diego: Point Loma Nazarene University, San Diego Miramar College in Mira Mesa, and educational space at Liberty Station
- South Bay and East County: Southwestern College in Chula Vista, and school and community college districts that rank among El Cajon's largest employers
Lab buildings on Torrey Pines Mesa and beyond
UC San Diego anchors the economy of University City, and the research institutes beside it make the La Jolla area one of the region's main research concentrations. Campus buildings there mix lecture halls and offices with wet labs, instrument rooms and restricted research floors. Crews clean to a written boundary agreed with lab managers: floors, sinks, trash and cleared bench tops are in scope, while chemicals, samples and instruments are not.
Some research buildings include cleanrooms. For those spaces EBS runs its cleanroom program, aligned with ISO and GMP practice, using cleanroom-safe equipment and chemicals, a set top-to-bottom cleaning order and cleaning logs and service reports that support audits. Cleanroom classes under ISO 14644 set the particle limits; the cleaning plan follows the class the room is rated for.

Planning school and university cleaning in San Diego County
Three local factors shape most programs. First, event days: Snapdragon Stadium at SDSU Mission Valley, graduations and athletics bring crowds that leave restrooms, lobbies and walkways needing recovery cleans the same night or next morning. Those are scheduled as add-ons so they do not crowd out the regular scope.
Second, commuter patterns: North County campuses connected by SR-78 and the Sprinter rail line, and community colleges across the county, run classes from morning into the evening, so crews work buildings as they empty and day porters handle restrooms during peak class changes.
Third, the coast: campuses near the water, such as those on Point Loma, see salt film on glass and metal railings and sand at entries. Their scopes include more frequent exterior glass, hardware wipe-downs and entry floor care.
K-12 and private schools
For K-12 and private schools, the nightly clean covers classrooms, restrooms, cafeterias and offices, with desks and touchpoints disinfected using EPA-registered products. Day porters can handle lunch periods and midday restroom checks. Schools set their own clearance rules for contractor staff, often including Department of Justice fingerprinting, and those are confirmed before anyone is placed on campus. Summer breaks are used for floor refinishing and deep cleaning.
Supervision from Corona
San Diego County campuses are served from EBS's one office in Corona. Supervisors record inspections and corrective actions in eHub, keep in touch with the facilities contact, and arrange backup staff when someone is out. EBS team members are trained, uniformed and background-checked. The main education cleaning page explains APPA cleaning levels, and the San Diego County janitorial page covers building-wide programs.

Questions we hear
Still not sure? A supervisor can answer at the walkthrough.
Request a walkthroughAll questionsCan you clean around active research labs?
Yes, within a boundary set with lab managers. Crews clean floors, sinks, trash and cleared surfaces, wear the protective equipment the lab requires and stay out of restricted rooms unless cleared. Spills of unknown materials are reported to the lab contact rather than cleaned.
Do you add event cleanup for graduations, games and performances?
Yes. Event recovery is scheduled as an add-on to the regular program, with extra staff for restrooms, lobbies, seating areas and walkways after the crowd leaves. Setup cleans before the event can be booked the same way, so the regular nightly scope is never cut short.
Our campus is near the coast. Does that change the scope?
Usually. Ocean air leaves salt on windows, door hardware and railings, and sand comes in on shoes, so coastal campuses get exterior glass and hardware attention more often and extra entry-floor care. The walkthrough sets the right frequency for your buildings.
Do you provide university custodial services in North County?
Yes. San Marcos, Oceanside, Escondido, Carlsbad and the rest of North County Coastal and Inland are in EBS's service area. University and college buildings there get the same scope, inspection and backup staffing process as campuses in central San Diego.
