School and University Cleaning in Los Angeles County
Custodial coverage for Los Angeles County universities, colleges and schools, organized by shift so buildings are cleaned as they empty.
The short answer
EBS Maintenance provides school and university cleaning in Los Angeles County for universities, community colleges, private schools and K-12 campuses, from the Westside and South Bay to the San Gabriel and San Fernando valleys. Crews handle classrooms, lecture halls, teaching labs, libraries, gyms and restrooms on evening and overnight shifts, with day porters where students are present all day. Teams are dispatched from EBS's Corona office, and supervisors inspect each campus on a routine cycle.
Where Los Angeles County's campuses are
Los Angeles County's colleges and universities are spread across every subregion, each with its own commute patterns and building ages. The main clusters:
- Westside: UCLA in Westwood, with UCLA Research Park on the former Westside Pavilion site, plus Santa Monica College, Loyola Marymount University on the edge of Playa Vista and private school campuses in Brentwood
- San Gabriel Valley: Caltech in Pasadena, which manages NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, along with Pasadena City College, the Claremont Colleges, the University of La Verne, Cal Poly Pomona, Western University of Health Sciences, Citrus College, East Los Angeles College and University of the West
- San Fernando Valley: California State University, Northridge and Pierce College in Woodland Hills
- South Bay: California State University, Dominguez Hills in Carson and Los Angeles Harbor College in Wilmington
- Southeast: Cerritos College in Norwalk, Compton College and Whittier College
Research campuses and commuter colleges
Research universities such as UCLA and Caltech combine classrooms with labs, research offices and buildings that stay in use well past dinner. Some research areas restrict entry to badge holders or require an escort, and EBS's experience in high-security, access-controlled facilities carries over: crews follow the access list, never prop doors and clean only the rooms they are cleared for.
Commuter colleges have a different shape. Students arrive from early morning to late evening and on weekends, restrooms take their heaviest use between class blocks, and buildings rarely sit empty until late at night. Programs for these campuses usually split work between a daytime porter and a late crew that follows the last class out of each building.

School and university cleaning in Los Angeles County, shift by shift
Matching shifts to building use is the single biggest factor in getting a large campus cleaned well. A typical plan looks like this, adjusted at the walkthrough:
| Shift | When | Typical work |
|---|---|---|
| Day porter | During classes | Restroom checks, cafeteria and food court resets, spills, trash at entries |
| Evening | As buildings empty | Classrooms, offices, restrooms, trash and recycling |
| Overnight | Buildings closed | Machine floor care, libraries, labs after staff leave |
| Weekend | Events and athletics | Setup and recovery cleans, project floor work |
| Breaks | Winter, spring and summer | Strip and refinish, carpet extraction, high dusting |
Health-science and clinical teaching rooms
Health-science programs, like those at Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, often teach in rooms set up like clinics: exam tables, sinks, simulation equipment and sharps containers. Crews clean them like clinical space, using EPA-registered disinfectants at their labeled contact times on tables and touchpoints, following the bloodborne pathogens rules in Title 8 section 5193, and leaving sharps containers and regulated waste to the program's own staff.
Routing and supervision across the county
Los Angeles County is large, so EBS assigns crews by subregion and keeps the same people on each campus. Supervisors inspect against the scope, log what they find and what was fixed in eHub, and stay in direct contact with the campus facilities manager. Backup staffing covers absences, which matters on a campus where a skipped night shows in every restroom by mid-morning.

Questions we hear
Still not sure? A supervisor can answer at the walkthrough.
Request a walkthroughAll questionsCan you clean buildings that hold classes until late evening?
Yes. Crews work each building as it empties instead of starting the whole campus at once, and machine floor care moves to the overnight hours. Libraries and student centers with late hours are cleaned last, after they close, so nothing is skipped.
Do you work alongside a campus's in-house custodial staff?
Yes. EBS can take specific buildings, a shift, or project work such as summer floor refinishing while the in-house team keeps the rest. Scopes are written so both teams know exactly which rooms and tasks belong to whom, and supervisors coordinate directly.
Are your crews able to work in restricted research buildings?
Yes, under the building's rules. EBS has experience in high-security and access-controlled environments, its people are background-checked, and crews follow badge, escort and key procedures set by the campus. Rooms they are not cleared for are left alone.
What drives the cost of university custodial services in Los Angeles County?
Square footage, the cleaning level the campus wants, hours of building use, floor types, the number of shifts, and periodic work such as refinishing and carpet extraction. EBS quotes after a walkthrough and does not publish rates, because two campuses of the same size can need very different programs.
