El Segundo's economy is built around aerospace and defense campuses (Boeing, RTX, Northrop Grumman, The Aerospace Corporation), Los Angeles Air Force Base and corporate headquarters such as Mattel and the Los Angeles Times. The Chevron refinery, the Smoky Hollow hard-tech district and LAX directly to the north round out a heavily commercial city.
